Donaghadee second XV made it three wins on the bounce with a decisive 31 points to 10 victory against Belfast Harlequins on a wet south Belfast afternoon on Saturday.
Garry Smith’s squad, including three players born in the 1970s, knuckled down against an abrasive opposition to chalk up five tries and secure the bonus point victory. First half scores from debutant Jed Nelson and captain Adam McGrath saw the Dee turn round at half time with a slender 14 points to 10 lead.
However not for the first time this season, the superior structure and fitness of the men in red and green ensured the second half was a more one-sided affair. Playing into the wind, Donaghadee scored three unanswered tries including fine efforts by Chris Scott and player of the match Adam McGrath, who magnificently controlled the game from kick off until the final whistle.
Donaghadee now look forward to an end of season derby on Saturday with league winners Ards third XV. The Dee travel to Hamilton Park with optimism of overturning the pre Christmas result and finishing 2024-25 on a high.
