Powerade Towns Cup Final - Clogher Valley v Donaghadee

Powerade Towns Cup Final - Clogher Valley v Donaghadee

Monday 21 April 2014
14:30 - 16:30
Jim Lyttle

At long last the kick-off time for Easter Monday’s Powerade Towns Cup Final between Donaghadee and Clogher Valley has been confirmed as 2:30pm. Valley have a rich recent history in this competition having made the Final in three out of the last four seasons before this one - winning on two of those occasions. It is ninety years since the Dee have won the Towns Cup and well over fifty since they have been in the Final. Although Valley, the 2013/14 Kukri Qualifying League One Champions, will go into the Final as firm favourites the Dee will look to their 2011 victory over Coleraine in the Millar McCall Wylie Junior Cup Final for inspiration. A number of the players who featured in that Junior Cup winning side have remained involved in the 1st XV squad this season – among them current skipper Alastair Lockhart (pictured first on right), Gareth Gordon, Chris Good, Richard Martindale, Paul Blewitt, Nigel Barker, Bill Allen, Rory Garnham and Chris McGivern along with 1st XV Manager Peter Matthews and Club Physio Niall Moraghan. The Final will be especially poignant for the Dee’s openside flanker Chris Hamilton who was still in the process of recovering from a broken leg when the 2011 Junior Cup Final was played. Admittance to the newly refurbished Ravenhill stadium will be £8 for adults and £3 for children and will be payable at the turnstiles. Plans for coach travel and pre/post game events are still in the process of finalisation but will be posted on Facebook, the Club website and local press when they become available. Supporters are reminded that no form of alcohol carryouts are permitted at Ravenhill and anyone found in possession of same will be asked to leave by stadium officials – full bar facilities will be available at Ravenhill shortly before, during and shortly after the game. We know that Clogher Valley skipper Stephen Baxter (pictured second from left) and his side will bring a huge support to Ravenhill so it is up to the Dee to try and more than match this and emulate the red and green masses who spurred the lads on to victory in 2011. C’MON THE DEE!!!
